Social distancing and quarantining are making right now the perfect time to switch to natural deodorant. Because, let’s be honest, you’re gonna stink!
When you switch from “normal” deodorant with aluminum to a natural one there is going to be a transitional detox phase. Your body will be expelling all the toxins and chemicals put into it from the traditional deodorant. This detox phase sucks. All the toxins exiting your body is a pretty stinky process, and it can last an entire month! (Less if you are lucky, I was not lucky.)
I made the switch to natural deodorant three years ago when I learned that the rash on my underarms was caused by an aluminum sensitivity, I have the same problem with nickel.
The transition was really rough for me. I had no idea about the detox period and was mortified when I started smelling so bad. A quick Google search helped to calm me down and realize that there was nothing wrong with me and that the smell was a natural and necessary step during the transition phase.
However, I still had massive anxiety about my smell, because I still had to go out into public and into work! I was still a math teacher during this time, and I had a TINY classroom. I was so scared to lift my arm to write on the whiteboard, I felt like I would stink up the whole room and knock my students unconscious with my stink if it did! I also did not want my students to hug me and I did not want to talk to any parents for fear they would smell me and judge me.
This stinky transitional detox period is what makes right now during our socially distanced lives the perfect time to switch!
You are going to stink, but at least you will mostly be home with loved ones, who should also switch, so you can all stink together. And when you are out grocery shopping or any other essential trip you must make, people have to stay six feet away from you! There will never be a better time to make this change!
In my next post I will share some tips to help you with transition.
Let me know if you have already made the switch to natural deodorant or are considering it in the comments below.
